You must bring your original identification document (ID) with you to all parts of the test (written and speaking). The ID must be the same document you used during the booking process. No other documents or photocopies will be accepted.
Failure to bring the correct ID document will mean that you will NOT be able to take the test or receive a refund.
Identification System
IELTS test day registration includes photography and finger print scanning of test takers and photography of their identification document (ID) at all UK test centres. The photograph of the test taker taken on the test day will be printed onto the Test Report Form (TRF). The photograph of the test taker and their ID will only be used for test related purposes (including, but not limited to, issuing TRFs and receiving organisation recognition) under UK and international data protection regulations. Similarly finger scanning is only used to support the security of the test and information will only ever be used for test related purposes. IELTS is recognised for its integrity, fairness and authority by up to 10,000 receiving organisations worldwide and this policy reflects the global IELTS strategy of continued test service improvement as well as security enhancement.
The photograph of the test taker will show the head, ears and shoulders from the front. Please don’t wear glasses for the photograph.
Please note that test day photography and finger scanning is mandatory for all IELTS test takers in the UK.
Should you need further information regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.

One Skill Retake
With IELTS One Skill Retake, you have the option to retake any one section of the test (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) if you need to improve on one area (instead of retaking all four sections).
We offer IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) for candidates who took an IELTS on Computer test at the CES Leeds test centre.
Please read the following important information before deciding to book an OSR:
- OSR is only available for IELTS on Computer (IoC) tests, not for IELTS on Paper tests.
- Candidates must have taken a full IoC test before applying for OSR.
- If a test taker is not happy with the result of the full IoC test, they have a choice
- to apply for a remark
- to book a new test
- to book an OSR.
- Candidates can only book one OSR per full IoC test taken.
- OSR can only be booked for ONE skill per test.
- OSR can only be booked at the same test centre where the original IoC test was taken.
- OSR must be taken on a test date within 60 days of the original IoC test date.
- Test takers must register and pay for OSR within 50 days of the original IoC test date.
- OSR bookings are subject to availability so early registration is advised.
- OSR costs £130.00.
- It is essential for a test taker to check with the recognising organisation to which they are intending to apply, whether it is accepting certificates gained via OSR. Not all organisations are accepting IELTS results with OSR components at the moment. A non-exhaustive list of recognising organisations accepting the OSR certificates is on the IELTS website (https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/take-ielts/one-skill-retake/organisations) but again, candidates are responsible for double checking this.
You can find further information about One Skill Retake on this section of the IELTS official website https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/take-ielts/one-skill-retake.
Test takers cannot book a One Skill Retake for themselves. To apply for OSR you must email [email protected] or call 0113 242 7171 within 49 days of your original IoC test date.
