Before you register, please read this important IELTS Information.
We recommend you register for an IELTS test at least 5 weeks in advance. Places are limited and are on a first-come-first-served basis.
Registering for the test is easy and can be done completely online. We offer multiple test dates every week for your convenience. Use our calendar to choose the test date that suits you best.
Online registration is easy. Just follow these five steps:
Step 1 : Select IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. You can then select either IELTS on paper or IELTS on computer, or both. Search for the test date. Choose the date and start time. You can select your preferred Speaking test time by clicking on ‘change speaking’.
Step 2 : You will then need to create an account and enter your personal details. If you are under 18 years of age your parent or guardian must open an account in their own name first and then book the test for you.
Step 3 : As part of the booking you will need to provide details from the identification document (ID) you will bring on the test day; you can use a passport, European ID card, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Application Registration Card (ARC) as ID for your test. No other documents are accepted.
Step 4 : Make your payment for the test fee by selecting the button below:
2023 fee is £190.00
2024 fee is £205.00
Or telephone 0113 2427171 to pay with a credit or debit card during office hours (Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:00).
Step 5: When you have made your payment and your booking has been checked, you will receive an email from the British Council confirming your booking.
Approximately 7 days before the test date, the test centre will send you an email with the timetable for the test and useful information for the day.
Please check your email inbox and junk mail inbox regularly. You may also wish to list our email address [email protected] as ‘not junk mail’ or ‘safe’ in your email provider’s settings.
Bookings must be completed no later than 1 day after you register and no later than 7 days before your IELTS test.
Bookings are not complete until you have made your payment and the booking has been confirmed.
Do you have any special requirements due to ill health /a medical condition?
If you have any special requirements you should select ‘I have accessibility needs for the test date’ on the online booking form. You must then provide a doctor’s letter or professional assessment, which should be no more than two years old. The evidence should be emailed to us at [email protected] when you have made your booking.
Special requirements are only available if you take IELTS on paper.
